The Pottsville Junior Lady Apaches defeated the Dardanelle Junior Lady Sand Lizards 34-27 to clinch the 2021 Jr. High District Championship.
The Lady Apaches had a slow start and trailed early by as many as seven points. Going into halftime, they still trailed 13-9.
An early 3-pointer in the third quarter by Mayli Martin gave the Lady Apaches the spark they needed to rattle off 16 points in the quarter.
The lead continued to extend with Drue Hollis hitting back to back threes going into the 4th quarter.
“I could not be any more proud of this group of girls,” Junior Lady Apaches head coach Britney Nealy said. “We found out earlier this week that two key players were going to miss the game due to being quarantined. Unfortunately, this is nothing new to this group. They’ve faced so much adversity this year, but continued to pick themselves up and keep battling day in and day out. I’m just so grateful to see their hard work and dedication pay off in the end.”
Drue Hollis led all scorers with 15 points and 4 steals. Mayli Martin added 12 points and 3 steals. Karsyn Moudy added 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals. Kennedy Corbin had a huge defensive game adding 13 rebounds and 2 blocks.
