Apaches News · Junior Apaches win district crown

The Pottsville Junior Apaches won the district championship 37-35 over the Ozark Junior Hillbillies.

Junior Apaches head coach Garrett Hill said it’s been a difficult season but his players came together when it mattered the most.

“We lost a lot of close games during the season,” he said. “It was frustrating having to deal with the quarantines throughout the year as well. We had two players get quarantined on Wednesday this week so we were also dealing with that going into the biggest game of the year. We ended up the 4 seed going into District. We had to beat the 1 seed Heber springs in the first round and then Ozark the 2 seed in the finals. I’m just really proud of this group of guys for being able to overcome a really up and down season. They really stepped up when the games meant the most.”

In the championship game, the Junior Apaches were led in scoring by Landon Williams with 17 points. Miller Mahan scored seven points. Dawson Fryar and Landon McNeely scored five each.
