The Russellville Cyclones and Pottsville Apaches tennis teams went head-to-head on Thursday, Aug. 6 in a practice match.
The Cyclones won 4-0 while the Lady Cyclones won 3-1.
“Overall, the team played well,” Russellville head coach Bill Rowlett said. “It reflected the hard work they have put in at practice the last month. The boys lost four seniors last year and are rebuilding with two new singles players and both doubles teams. The girls are stronger with senior leadership and have added sophomore Merideth Hale to the doubles line up. This week, the team will be getting ready for their conference opener in Siloam Springs on Aug. 18.”
Hill said it went well for a first outing.
“That was the first time we’ve gotten to play someone other than ourselves since we started practicing so it was great to get to see the kids compete,” Hill said. “Starting out you could tell we had some nerves and it took us a little while to settle down. Once we got those nerves out, our kids started to settle down nicely and compete. I’m anxious to see how we bounce back from this on Tuesday at Alma.”
